Dr. Nicholas Hugentobler knew he wanted to be a podiatrist ever since he had his first positive experience with one, who also happened to be his uncle. He had severe shin splints in college, and was unable to run or play sports. After trying numerous home remedies such as taping, icing, and anti-inflammatory medicine, his uncle made him custom orthotics that completely changed his life. He knew then that he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives the same way his uncle had in his.
Dr. Hugentobler graduated from Des Moines University in 2009 with his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency at Detroit Medical Center in 2012, after which he and his family moved to Durango to begin work at Animas Foot and Ankle. Dr. Hugentobler is associated with ACFAS, APMA, CPMA, NMPMA, APWCA and the Colorado Foot and Ankle Society. He is one of the only physicians in the area who is certified to perform total ankle replacements. He is a licensed podiatrist in both Colorado (CO) and New Mexico (NM).
In 2017, Dr. Hugentobler earned the prestigious distinction of becoming the Chief Medical Officer of Animas Surgical Hospital in Durango.
When he isn’t practicing podiatry, Dr. Hugentobler enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities while spending time with his wife and kids. They like to go on all kinds of adventures including dirt biking, hiking, camping, and fishing.
Dr. Selina Sekulic graduated from New York College of Podiatric Medicine with her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine. She completed her residency at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT and was certified in podiatric medicine, surgery, and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. We were very excited to have her join us and believe that her diversified clinical training and advanced skills will make her a valuable asset to our clinic and community.
Dr. Sekulic enjoys running, mountain biking, and snowboarding. She attended Wake Forest University and was a DI NCAA All American in Cross Country and a Junior National Champion in the 3000m steeplechase. She was plagued with foot and ankle injuries and found out that one can not live their life to the fullest with lower extremity pain. Dr. Sekulic has made it her mission to provide optimal treatment to all her patients, so they can return to the activities as quickly and safely as possible.
Dr. Sekulic is Board Qualified, and licensed podiatrist in New Mexico (NM), Colorado (CO), and Utah (UT).
When Dr. Hadfield was fifteen years old, he had a terrible accident while riding his horse. The horse fell on him, shattering the bones of his leg. After nearly six months of rehabilitation, he was able to walk normally thanks in great part to excellent care and medical technology. It was this accident that lead him into the field of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Hadfield is a graduate of the Penn Presbyterian residency program, where he studied for four years under the guidance of some of the leaders in the field of Podiatric Medicine, including Michael Downey, Scot Malay and Harold Schoenhaus. This education afforded him a knowledge both of the most common conditions of the foot and ankle as well as the rare and challenging. Dr. Hadfield earned his degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He was able to see a wide variety of pathology and an even wider variety of cultural and economic variation.
Dr. Hadfield earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Utah. His love of reading and writing lead him to pursue this course of study and he believes it vital to his mode of practice. He believes that open and constructive communication is the key to a meaningful understanding of one another. He believes that all pursuits in medicine are an art as much as a science and that medicine is ultimately a humanity above all else.
Dr. Hadfield is passionate about education and is currently the Audio Editor of the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He believes that patient education is central to the healing process and that when a patient understands their condition there is a greater chance of success. He believes in evidence-based medicine and using the latest medical science to find innovative ways of solving complex problems.
Dr. Hadfield is a father of 3 and loves kids. He is well versed in common as well as rare conditions that occur in the pediatric foot. He emphasizes a conservative approach in treatment and involves the child in the educational process. Children often have a fear of the doctor (sometimes called white coat syndrome) and Dr. Hadfield understands these fears, having been a pediatric patient himself.
Dr. Hadfield is interested in all aspects of conservative and surgical care of the foot and ankle. He emphasizes prevention as the most important way of promoting proper foot health.
Dr. Hadfield grew up in a small suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was able to live both the country and the city lifestyle. He spent summers riding horses and spent the rest of the year in the suburbs. He feels that this mixture was both an ideal way to grow up and an integral part of his ability to relate to people from all walks of life.
The poet John Keats (who was also a surgeon) wrote, “until we are sick, we understand not”. That life-changing event in teenage years laid the foundation for Dr. Hadfield’s future career path, but it also profoundly influenced his approach to a patient after being a patient himself.
Dr. Micah Tovey’s approach to treatment is centered on prompt diagnosis, early intervention, and preventative care, and describes himself as a “conservative surgeon”. His goal is to make sure to take the time needed with each of his patients to address their concerns and provide the podiatric care possible.
Prior to deciding on a career in medicine, Dr. Micah Tovey participated in research at the Portland VA Research Foundation and Oregon Health and Science University in the field of neuroimmunology, primarily studying the molecular causes of Multiple Sclerosis. In order to pursue his medical degree, Dr. Micah Tovey attended Des Moines University, where he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. He continued his medical education at Tacoma General Hospital, where he received his residency training in foot and ankle surgery.
When Dr. Tovey has free time he loves to spend it with his lovely wife and children, exploring his surroundings, traveling, and reading.
